Installing Maven 3.3.3 on Ubuntu 15.04

Prerequisite:- JDK 1.5 or above, JAVA_HOME set in environment variable.

Here are the steps to install Maven 3.3.3 on Ubuntu 15.04


Download Apache Maven 3.3.3 binary from repository using the following command
wget http://mirrors.sonic.net/apache/maven/maven-3/3.3.3/binaries/apache-maven-3.3.3-bin.tar.gz

Unzip the binary with tar
tar -zxf apache-maven-3.3.3-bin.tar.gz

Move the application directory to /usr/local
sudo cp -R apache-maven-3.3.3 /usr/local


Make a soft link in /usr/bin for universal access of mvn

sudo ln -s /usr/local/apache-maven-3.3.3/bin/mvn /usr/bin/mvn

Verifify mvn installation
mvn --version
Apache Maven 3.3.3 (12a6b3acb947671f09b81f49094c53f426d8cea1; 2014-12-14T17:29:23+00:00)
Maven home: /usr/local/apache-maven-3.2.5
Java version: 1.7.0_80, vendor: Oracle Corporation
Java home: /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle/jre
Default locale: en_US, platform encoding: UTF-8
OS name: "linux", version: "3.13.0-48-generic", arch: "amd64", family: "unix"

Install R on Ubuntu 14.04

Update your local repository
sudo apt-get update
sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list
Check http://cran.r-project.org/mirrors.html for the list of CRAN mirrors.
In the end of the file paste the below content
deb http://cran.rstudio.com/bin/linux/ubuntu trusty/
If your mirror is different from http://cran.rstudio.com then use
deb <mirror>/bin/linux/ubuntu trusty/
save and close

Update your local repositories with added libraries
sudo apt-get update*
Install R base and dev libraries
sudo apt-get install r-base-dev r-base

Installing Maven 3.2.5 on Ubuntu 14.04

Prerequisite:- JDK 1.5 or above, JAVA_HOME set in environment variable.

Here are the steps to install Maven 3.2.5 on Ubuntu 14.04


Download Apache Maven 3.2.5 binary from repository using the following command
wget http://mirrors.sonic.net/apache/maven/maven-3/3.2.5/binaries/apache-maven-3.2.5-bin.tar.gz

Unzip the binary with tar
tar -zxf apache-maven-3.2.5-bin.tar.gz

Move the application directory to /usr/local
sudo cp -R apache-maven-3.2.5 /usr/local


Make a soft link in /usr/bin for universal access of mvn

sudo ln -s /usr/local/apache-maven-3.2.5/bin/mvn /usr/bin/mvn

Verifify mvn installation
mvn --version

Installing Maven 3.0 on Ubuntu 12.04/12.10/13.04

Prerequisite:- JDK 1.5 or above, JAVA_HOME set in environment variable.

Here are the steps to install Maven 3.0.4 on Ubuntu 12.04/12.10/13.04


Download Apache Maven 3.0.4 binary from repository using the following command
wget http://archive.apache.org/dist/maven/binaries/apache-maven-3.0.4-bin.tar.gz

Unzip the binary with tar
tar -zxf apache-maven-3.0.4-bin.tar.gz

Move the application directory to /usr/local
sudo cp -R apache-maven-3.0.4 /usr/local


Make a soft link in /usr/bin for universal access of mvn
sudo ln -s /usr/local/apache-maven-3.0.4/bin/mvn /usr/bin/mvn


Verifify mvn installation
mvn –version
Apache Maven 3.0.5 (r01de14724cdef164cd33c7c8c2fe155faf9602da; 2013-02-19 19:21:28+0530)
Maven home: /usr/local/apache-maven-3.0.5
Java version: 1.6.0_32, vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc.

Default locale: en_IN, platform encoding: UTF-8
